Configuring Shipping Defaults
Once you have completed UPS account setup, you can adjust the default shipping values and label output settings by choosing Defaults within the Preferences layout.
SHIPPING
Shipment defaults can help you speed up shipment creation. Default Settings include everything from shipping account, service and package type - to default weights and delivery confirmation.
ADDITIONAL SHIPPING PREFS FUNCTIONS
Where you can edit Address Management, Shipment Rating and Batch Processing.
Shipment Rating
- Update Rates During Package Entry - Rates are updated automatically during package entry.
- Rate Incomplete Addresses - Rates an address that is incomplete
Batch Processing
- Skip Problems During Batch Shipping - If there is an issue with a ship record, it will skip and complete the batch process without halting the process.
- Display Confirmation Before Batch Processes - This displays dialog before running batch processes.
Address Management
- Validate During Entry - US addresses will automatically be validated as soon as you are finished entering the address information.
- Validate Before Rating - Check the box if you want US addresses to validate prior to getting rates.
- Validate Before Shipment - Checking this box will validate US addresses before completing the shipping process.
- Standardize During Validation - Checking this box will only standardize an address per UPS Address Validation, it should not modify the actual street address values entered.
- Add To Address Book - If a address does not exist in the NRG Address Book, the address will be added once the order is shipped.
Post Shipment
- Export data - Check this box and it will export the shipment data to the application NRGship application directory.
- Copy Track Number to Clipboard - Puts the tracking number on your clipboard to easily paste onto order records.
- Create New Record After Shipment - Automatically creates a new ship record once you've shipped.
- Select Text Entry Field After Shipment - The first text field, such as the order import field, will be selected after the order has been shipped.
- Invoke URL handler - Invokes the specified URL (see below)
- Run user script - For FM users, you can call a custom script in the data file.
Shipment Error Handling
- Don't Allow Invalid Addresses - If this box is checked, any address which does not validate as a valid address will not be allowed to ship.
- Don't Truncate Addresses - Checking this box will shorten the length of an address if it exceeds the default number of characters allowed by UPS.
- Don't Allow PO Boxes - If this box is checked, PO Box addresses will not be allowed to ship.
- Don't Allow APO/FPO/DPO - If this box is checked, PO Box addresses will not be allowed to ship.
BOX SIZES
If you ship with the same box sizes on a regular basis and dimensional weight is a factor in your shipping rates, you'll want to add these defaults to save time as you prepare your shipments.
International
If you ship international shipments on a regular basis, you'll want to add the item (commodity) details, along with setting up international shipments defaults to save you additional time while preparing these shipments.
NOTIFICATIONS
You can setup email notifications for shipment, delivery and for any exceptions. You must have a sender email as part of the shipping address to allow for recipient notifications.
IMPORT RULES - Coming Soon!
By default, NRGship UPS will set the service based on the imported information. If the information is not recognized, NRGship UPS will set the Default value, unless you setup your Import Rules.
In order to apply certain import rules to your shipments those rules are set here. Remember only one rule will apply per shipment, so make sure to set your priorities.
- You can name your rule
- Base it on Service
- Operators include =, >, < and variations, include cn (contains)
- Conditions can be set as carrier or service
- Set the Service and Package Type you want to set in NRGship UPS
- Finally, you can sort the priority of the rules
MARKUP RULES - Coming Soon!
By default, NRGship UPS will provide the published or negotiated rate for the package in the ship results. An adjusted rate can also be provided based on the customizing markup rules.
In order to apply certain markup rules to your shipments those rules are set here. Remember only one rule will apply per shipment, so make sure to set your priorities.

- Base it on Ship Method, Actual or Published Rate or Declared Value
- Operators include =, >, < and variations, include cn (contains)
- Conditions can be set as services or a dollar value
- Calculations can be +, -, or * (multiplication)
- Finally, you can sort the priority of the rules
